Sydney Film Festival Kicks off With Star-Studded Guest List

The 62nd Sydney Film Festival opened last night, June 3, at Market Street’s State Theatre with the world premiere of Australian film Ruben Guthrie.

Ruben Guthrie is the directorial debut of award-winning playwright, screenwriter and actor Brendan Cowell. Produced by Kath Shelper, the film was shot on location all over Sydney with a cast including our very own Abbey Lee Kershaw and Brenton Thwaites.

NSW Minister for the Arts, Troy Grant, said Australian films are a strong flavour at this year’s festival. “The local film industry is firing on all cylinders with over 51 Australian productions screened over 12 days at this year’s festival including; six features, 10 feature-length documentaries, 12 short documentaries, and 22 short fiction films, together with some of the best cinema in the world,” Tony said.

Australia’s acting elite, plus our social guns, rocked up for the red carpet, looking to a mix of local and international designers to show off their style.
