Kylie Minogue Is Attempting to Block Kylie Jenner Trademarking ‘Kylie’

It’s the battle of the Kylies as Kylie Minogue is reportedly attempting to block Kylie Jenner‘s attempt to trademark the name “Kylie”.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star filed a U.S. trademark application for the name “Kylie” in connection with both advertising and entertainment services, however, it has now been contested by Minogue.

According to World Intellectual Property Review, KDP, an Australian-based legal business representing Minogue, has opposed the application saying that it would cause confusion between both Kylies and also harm Minogue’s brand.

Minogue has already registered a number of trademarks in the US over the past 13 years, including “Kylie Minogue darling”, “Lucky – the Kylie Minogue musical” and “Kylie Minogue”. Her 1998 debut album was also titled Kylie, which went gold in the US and spawned The Locomotion which made it to number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Legal documents submitted by KDP refer to Jenner as “a secondary reality television personality” who has drawn criticism from “the Disability Rights and African-American communities” for “her photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts” on Instagram.

Minogue, on the other hand, is described as an “internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist” who is known around the world as “Kylie”.

In a move that’s potentially a response to the ongoing legal stoush, Minogue tweeted yesterday: “Hello….. My name is KYLIE #lightyears.”
