Prince William Makes History as First Royal to Appear on Cover of LGBT Magazine

Prince William also features in an interview, in which he speaks out about his own experiences with homophobic bullying directed towards the gay community at his Kensington Palace home and the impact it has had on the mental health of those involved.

“No-one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no-one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives,” he says in the interview. “Their sense of strength and optimism should give us all encouragement to stand up to bullying wherever we see it.”

Attitude editor Matthew Todd revealed to the Independent that he got in contact with the Prince after finding out about the work he was doing with the LGTB community. “I wrote to the Duke of Cambridge after writing about the realisation LGBT people can suffer higher levels of mental health problems and a growing awareness this is caused by experiences at school,” he said.

“Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge [Kate Middleton] and Prince Harry have been focusing on mental health issues in that last year and I think they realised that there this is a significant problem with LGBT-phobic bullying in schools which needs to be addressed.”
