Jennifer Lopez and Giuseppe Zanotti Are Collaborating on a Shoe Line (Naturally, Pink Snakeskin Is Involved)

Forty-seven has all the makings of a banner year for Jennifer Lopez (who we are convinced has a bewitched, aging portrait stashed in an attic somewhere). The singer-actress-producer-designer’s leisurewear of choice, the Juicy Couture tracksuit, is staging a comeback, she just rang in her birthday surrounded by a court of hip hop, athletic and fashion royalty, she voices Diego’s love interest in the latest Ice Age installment, and her fragrance empire, hit NBC drama and Vegas residency are all going strong. To top it off, today Lopez announced her latest project, a high-end footwear and accessories line in collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti.

The capsule collection, called Giuseppe for Jennifer Lopez, will be shown at the Footwear Fashion Association of New York from August 2 to August 4, but won’t be available for purchase at major luxury retailers until January. Priced between $795 and $1,995, pieces include several Swarovski-encrusted open-toe booties (natch), embellished wedge sneakers, tall, strappy gladiators in pink snakeskin-print leather as well as two leather handbag styles.

Zanotti, whose 18-piece (at time of publishing) capsule collection with J.Lo is far more extensive than any of his past celebrity partnerships, said of the line: “I’ve always been inspired by Jennifer and love the way she looks in my shoes. It was a natural evolution to collaborate together.” In a related interview with WWD, he elaborated: “It’s the first time I’ve done a real collection for a celebrity. I used to do in the past one shoe, two shoes. In this case it’s not enough to describe her.”

Giving voice to what popped into our heads the second we read the words “pink snakeskin-print leather,” Lopez described the collaboration as “everything you would expect from the both of us — bad-ass high heels with shapes that are fierce and, of course, have some sparkle!”

However, Zanotti stressed that #GiuseppexJennifer will have a more grown up — less raring glam — aesthetic: “My vision in fashion is less spectacular than before. It’s like less fireworks and more cool, but in a good way forward. Less is more,” the designer told WWD.

That remains to be seen, but as far as silhouettes go, do the two fashion icons have the combined power to resurrect the wedge sneaker? Place your bets now.
