Watch: Sarah Jessica Parker Finally Admits Sex and the City 3 Might Happen

This Sunday, in an interview with CBS’ Jane Pauley, Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that our future could hold a third Sex and the City movie — emphasis on the word “could.”

“I will say that the idea, it rests in the butler’s pantry,” said Parker. “It’s not on the table, but somebody is holding it fairly nearby.” Given that SJP has repeatedly shut down rumors of a third Sex and the City installment — the most recent instance of this being last May — this is a pretty promising development.

That said, Parker has put forth a few questionable Sex and the City theories during her Divorce promotional tour. In a recent interview with Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick, she stated the following (is everyone sitting down?): “I used to wonder if Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda were real. That that wasn’t just her column.”

“They’re such perfectly archetypal characters,” she elaborated. “So you’re writing a column about sexual politics and observations of female-male, primarily, heterosexual relationships, so you’re picking one type. You’re saying, ‘This type is this and this,’ and then you complicate it more, like any good writer does. So I’m not entirely sure they are real…What we are seeing isn’t necessarily what happened in New York.”

(If you’re now feeling heavy-hearted and questioning the very nature of your Samantha, Charlotte or Miranda-identified existence, take comfort in the fact that none of Sex and the City’s writers have confirmed this theory.)

As to what the much-speculated-about third movie would look like (now that we’ve thoroughly exhausted the Aiden storyline, among others)? Bradshaw, ahem, Parker, says it wouldn’t be hinged on “looking back.” Rather than being a “Golden Girls version of Sex and the City,” as Pauley posited, Parker affirmed that “those women have only interest in looking ahead, while being informed by the past. And in a way, maybe that would be the best for all of us — living people, nonfictional as well!” Is it just us, or did Parker just shade our undying SATC obsession?

Watch the full interview above and let the sound of SJP singing “Tomorrow” soothe you as you adjust to life in the aftershock of these SATC-related bombs.
