Veering away from last year’s bright pastel colors, Pantone’s Fashion Color Trend Report for Spring 2019 anticipates a classic and fiery palette.
Pantone’s trend forecast is dominated by “lively hues” that are a mix of bright reds and oranges but also consist of mellow tones. Fiesta, Jester Red, Tumeric, Living Coral and Pink Peacock are on the bolder side of the spectrum, whereas Pepper Stem, Aspen Gold, Toffee, Sweet Lilac and Mango Mojito appear to be on the softer side. A palette of neutrals for everyday fashion was also included. Colors on this palette include Soybean, Eclipse, Sweet Corn and Brown Granite.
Executive director Leatrice Eiseman told WWD that from a psychological perspective, the hotter the colors are, the more “empowerment” they encourage. “That’s a word that has gotten some play that is really going to show itself in the spring collections,” she said. “Confident, uplifting, joyful hues, but the undercurrent is empowerment to all of them.”
The report also notes that the list of colors is a reflection of the company’s mindset to inspire “confidence and spirit” through empowering hues. “Bringing together high fashion and street style, the mindset for Spring/Summer 2019 transcends seasonality for both men’s and women’s fashion. Vibrant without being overpowering, highlighted shades illustrate our desire for authenticity and our continued need for creativity and relatable, accessible design,” the report adds.
