Two fashion capitals down. Two to go, as we bid a fond farewell to London Fashion Week.
Last week, to unofficially rev up the fashion festivities within the British capital with a bang, the world of Vogue descended on the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to bestow upon us Vogue World: London which featured dazzling appearances from ballerinas to the 90s supermodels. During this season’s jam-packed LFW schedule, we’ve encountered a mixture of established and emerging talent. Roksanda transported us back to her roots for a collection inspired by Byzantine monasteries from her native Serbia while JW Anderson gave us classic wardrobe staples elevated to new heights, with pieces either inflated, molded in clay or sprouting feathers. A firm staple of LFW, Richard Quinn’s love for the avant-garde was on full display, with guests ushered into a flower-filled ballroom where models walked the space draped in ethereal cocktail dresses and glittering evening gowns – all evoking a haute couture spirit. Romance was on the agenda at Simone Rocha while Erdem’s collection combined tulle skirts, lace slips and floral quilts oh so wonderfully recycled from Chatsworth House. Molly Goddard proved once again she’s the reigning queen of girly gowns and for his sophomore collection as Burberry’s creative director, Daniel Lee paid homage to the brand’s iconic trench coat – with a twist.
So, are you ready to uncover the hits and misses LFW had to offer? Scroll down for a completely unbiased take on London Fashion Week Spring 2024, all through the eyes of our unfiltered forum members.
MISS | Molly Goddard
“Molly Goddard is becoming so tired now. I need something fresh from her now.” [LadyJunon]
“The dresses with one side gathered, just look like they got stuck in the sewing machine. The amount of creases and wrinkled seams elsewhere makes my skin crawl…” [YohjiAddict]
“It looks sloppy and badly made. No amount of layering can hide the real lack of technical skills.” [Lola701]

HIT | Simone Rocha
“Off all the London shows this one stood out the most, very romantic and gothic.” [disco54]
“Her clothes are soo romantic. I like the whole thing but especially the men’s clothes.” [Bugsy]
“I think it’s beautiful. Her pleating and gathering techniques make it a properly interesting take on bridal without being silly.” [GoldenPetals]

HIT | Erdem
“I’m in love!” [cul8tr]
“I love this, am a fan of grandma chic! Love the pop of color!” [Urban Stylin]
“I sometimes wonder how Erdem would do with haute couture, and I guess it’s a good thing. His choice of textiles is always wonderful and even if the looks seem to be a bit outdated, they’re extremely fascinating and charming. I can see why the collection may be perceived as referential, but I still believe Moralioglu has created a distinct universe for his brand.” [perhydrol]

HIT | Sharon Wauchob
“Amazing. Everything looks so good and delicate.” [thiago]
“Like a whisper of fresh air. Every piece has their place in the collection.” [Cocteau Stone]
“Sharon truly is that single woman standing of individual refinement, discipline and eccentric ingenuity.” [Phuel]

HIT | JW Anderson
“I am in awe with the lozenge-pleated trousers. So clever and yet so easy and elegant.” [yslforever]
“The exploded bomber jackets are pretty interesting, and so are the pant variations. They’d feel pretty warm and snug as an outfit combo. The quality of everything is really nice too.” [Cocteau Stone]
“I like how he finally found the perfect balance between weird experiments and commerce for his brand. There are a lot of separate pieces that’ll be very eye-catching in the store. And I like that he covered every category from day wear to evening wear with those gorgeous dresses.” [THD96]

HIT | 16Arlington
“I’m into it, and feels far more refined and elevated, in stark comparison to what else we’ve seen during London Fashion Week, thus far. The grey outfits are gorgeous, and I’m really into the grey teamed with the red and vice versa.” [vogue28]
“This isn’t over styled so the simplicity is a breath of fresh air. The grey and the red is a rather vicious combo with those shades, and I’m rather fond of the grey sequins too. Some inklings of Christopher Kane in here with the Prada-isms.” [Cocteau Stone]
“The choice of colors and the sequins are great.” [WAVES]

HIT | Roksanda
“I think this is a solid offering from Roksanda and I do enjoy the proportions, the use of brocade, the tailored pieces and the excessive use of fabric.” [WAVES]
“I think the opening purple gown is mesmerizing.” [Nimsay]
“This is way above the average London standard, in terms of technique and fabrics.” [bc collector]

MISS | Mark Fast
“Atrocious.” [Nimsay]
“Very tacky and terribly outdated, it seriously looks like a half-arsed attempt from Primark to rip-off Isabel Marant for spring break ca. 2012. It’s only really missing the flower crowns.” [YohjiAddict]
“This collection is pretty crap.” [Cocteau Stone]

HIT | David Koma
“Finally some sleekness from LFW!” [WAVES]
“Very much into this, and feels like a total breath of fresh air, given the vast majority of insipid collections during London Fashion Week. Not the most groundbreaking, but I can 110% appreciate the fact David Koma’s within a league of his own when it comes to LFW. I’m kinda into the splash of color throughout the collection, and love how cohesive it is.” [vogue28]

HIT | Burberry
“Definitely better than his previous show. I really liked the shoes. The jacket on Mona was beautiful, a highlight of the collection.” [avonlea002]
“An overall improvement over his overstuffed debut collection.” [Ruito]
“I never thought I’d say this, but I loved it! Especially dresses, shoes and jackets. A much better and more ‘British’ collection than Riccardo Tisci’s. At Burberry, Lee has found himself, at Bottega Veneta he was lost.” [HelgaZ]

HIT | Emilia Wickstead
“Everything looks precise and beautifully made.” [WAVES]
“This is one of the few brands I’m fine with being Dior rip-offs meets ladies who lunch. The girl is good at tailoring.” [SophiaVB]
“Emilia Wickstead is always one of the strong offerings during London Fashion Week, and this collection appears to be no exception. Always look forward to a Wickstead collection during LFW, especially after umpteen graduation-esque collections. Not a fan of the stripes but those floral fabrics are gorgeous!” [vogue28]

MISS | Chopova Lowena
“Very dumpy and juvenile.” [Cocteau Stone]
“It’s how imagine a Vivienne Westwood diffusion line for plus-sized teenagers would look like. The perfect example of a show that’s styled but not really designed.” [YohjiAddict]
“A tragedy. Most of these looks are costume not fashion. The best look is a tie print pleated skirt with leather jacket. Westwood Junior is very much the energy.” [Nimsay]

HIT | Richard Quinn
“Almost looks like couture!” [liberty33r1b]
“An absolute highlight of London Fashion Week, as Richard Quinn has become for me. This collection is just so sophisticated, ladylike, regal and oozes a strong sense of old-school haute couture that I cannot help but to be drawn like a moth to a flame. I am also extremely appreciative of the fact Quinn brings a bit of drama an elegance to LFW! Massive fan.” [vogue28]

MISS | Matty Bovan
“Everything I despise about London Fashion Week, within one collection.” [vogue28]
“If diarrhea was a fashion a collection it would look like this.” [avonlea002]
“This is just stupid. And extremely flammable.” [Cocteau Stone]
