A new fragrance from Givenchy, Dahlia Noir, is described as haunting and sensual, a “fatal flower” for mysterious and fascinating women. Model Mariacarla Boscono has a longstanding relationship with the house of Givenchy under Riccardo Tisci, and it’s easy to see why she’s one of Tisci’s muses. As the face of the ad campaign for the new fragrance, Mariacarla completely embodies the “Dahlia Noir” woman.
“Mariacarla never disappoints!! This is beyond gorgeous. I’m seriously wowed!” raved yesitsdagny.
“The campaign oozes the Givenchy signature style, I love it, I’m going to check it out when it hits stores,” wrote Chanelcouture09. “Although my one gripe about the campaign is how overly airbrushed [Mariacarla Boscono] is… she looks impeccable and I’m happy to see her in the campaign.”
Though the fragrance won’t be released until August, the ad is already doing its job and creating buzz that could translate to sales. Allen21 is already convinced of the fragrance’s merits, claiming, “I’m gonna buy this even if I’m a man.”
Purplethistle wrote, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a fragrance ad that’s made me want to go to the shops and buy some perfume. What I like is that it’s delicate and dark at the same time.”
Well played, Givenchy.
A Carine Roitfeld Clothing Line?
Could one of Carine Roitfeld’s new side projects possibly include an eponymous clothing line? There’s not much to go on at this point beyond a tweeted photo of a garment containing a “Carine Roitfeld” label sewn into it, but the forums are abuzz with the possibility of this new venture. “Now THAT could be interesting,” wrote mistress_f upon reading the latest gossip.
Envogueforever expressed: “If the ‘label’ rumor is true, then I really couldn’t be happier for her. I feel she’s in a place of ‘yes’ now, if that makes sense. Still, when I picked up Vogue Paris’ April [issue]… I literally felt a heartache. It feels so wrong AND weird not having Carine be the editor.”
“If [Roitfeld] starts her own label, she’s effectively ending her search for another prominent role as an editor-in-chief. I cannot think of one major magazine head that also runs an eponymous label,” wrote mikeijames.
Though it seems that many have missed Roitfeld’s insights and contributions as a high-powered editor, she appears to be moving in many different directions at the moment and all of them seem to be heading away from editor-in-chief positions. My guess is that after ten years at the helm of such an important and prominent magazine, she’s ready to have a bit more unrestricted fun with fashion. We’ll see if the clothing line rumors pan out.
Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola Set to Reunite?
“Kirsten [Dunst] is teaming up again with Sofia Coppola!” saann excitedly informed her fellow forum members. “I love it when they work together, they’re such a perfect fit and I’m so excited for this!”
American Zoetrope, Francis Ford Coppola’s production company, which has backed all of Sofia Coppola’s previous films, tweeted that they are “Happy to announce that Kirsten Dunst has agreed to be in Sofia Coppola’s new film Secret Door. Script is still being finished. Stay tuned!”
Saann wasn’t the only one excited about the prospect of the two women working together once more. “Many directors seem to have a muse and Sofia’s definitely seems to be Kiki! Great news!!” wrote Not Plain Jane.
Mary-Anne “can’t wait to hear more about this,” and atooomic is “so excited” that “Sofia and Kiki [will be] together again after such a long time.” This new project will be their first together since Marie Antoinette came out in 2006.
No word as of yet on what Secret Door will be about…
Update: As quickly as hopes were raised over the weekend, they were dashed today when we learned the news that Secret Door does not in fact exist, and Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola won’t be teaming up again just yet. The twitter account that was posing as Francis Ford Coppola’s production company, American Zoetrope, changed names several times after tweeting about the new project that we now know to be nonexistent, and subsequently indicated that the account would be deleted. Representatives for Kirsten Dunst have confirmed that the whole thing seemed to be nothing more than a hoax. A bit of a bummer, because we definitely believed it, but maybe the enthusiasm the news was met with will get the ball rolling on something new? [theplaylist]
