Forum Buzz: Penelope Cruz Misses in Marchesa; Lily Aldridge Weds Her King

For the screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at the Cannes Film Festival, Penelope Cruz walked the red carpet in a frothy lilac confection by Marchesa. The Fashion Spot forum members tend to be uber-critical of Marchesa creations and this gown was no exception.

“Awful dress!” Chiara 92 exclaimed upon seeing the images.

“The Marchesa dress is a HUGE miss! Nooooo…. but I love the hair!” lvstratus chimed in.

Nefertiti87 added her critique to the mix as well: “Hate the whole look with the Marchesa dress, she looks like she can’t breathe in that dress,” she posted.

Tough crowd…

A Model Marries Her King

In an intimate ceremony at a San Ysidro ranch last Thursday, model Lily Aldridge wed Kings of Leon musician Caleb Followill. “Caleb is the man of my dreams, and you can quote me on that,” Lily told JustJared.com after the ceremony. Is that sweet enough for everyone? Or maybe even a little too sweet?

The bride wore a custom strapless Vera Wang gown, while the groom wore a Gucci suit. Littlepaperstars gushed over the newly married couple: “Stunning. All of it. The dress is beautiful, Lily looks amazing, Caleb looks gorgeous. I even love the slightly scuffed boots. And the roses. Gorgeous.”

Empress Merel wrote: “They both look gorgeous! Love her wedding dress, it’s so pretty. Not a fan of loose hair with a veil but love it on her anyway because she looks so vibrant. Caleb is working that suit as well,” she added.

Iammarcelle agreed, saying, “I kind of know what you mean about the veil but I think she stuck true to her style in keeping [her hair] down. It’s her. People should do what they know is tried and true on their wedding day and I think she did. Gorgeous.”

Iammarcelle has a valid point. Too many brides walk down the aisle looking like a caricature of themselves, and Lily did a good job of dressing up for her big day while also letting her natural beauty shine through. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

W has had a pretty good track record with their magazine covers in the last few months, but for their June 2011 issue, which features Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks photographed by Mario Sorrenti, they’ve fallen short of achieving any sort of “wow” factor.

Maybe we just don’t care to see Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks on the cover of a magazine where we prefer to have our young ingénues transformed into fashion-forward versions of themselves. Tigerrouge expressed, “I don’t mind either actor, but I don’t want to see them stuck together in a posed embrace on the front of a magazine.”

Some people liked the cover, but most of us just felt apathetic. JennaaMonroe wrote, “Julia is an amazing actress and beautiful women but this cover does nothing for her.”

TheCheekyCritic lived up to her name, posting, “Can’t really say that this does anything for me. I’m not really sure what’s supposed to be happening on the cover, although Hanks certainly looks like he smells a rotten egg.”

Fans of the actors may want to pick up a copy of the June issue for the editorial. Personally, I would say what’s inside the magazine looks better than what they put on the outside. Or, you can just view the images here at tFS

Fashion Spot forum members love to find fashion inspiration from the street style of fashion editors, and Miroslava Mikheeva-Duma, who works for OK! Magazine in Russia, has been causing some buzz lately. Her laid back style featuring brands and items that are accessible make her a realistic source of inspiration. “I like the fact that she wears H&M and Zara,” wrote styleismatic.

“When I saw this photo (featured here) with [Miroslava] wearing a top and skirt from Zara, I went to Zara to buy her lace top and [it is] now in my closet… Miroslava is always a great source of inspiration,” godsavethhequeen posted. She wasn’t the only one who was smitten by Miroslava’s top.

“This outfit is so gorgeous and I didn’t know that this lace top is from Zara!” educo admired. “Did you recently buy this?” she asked, “I must find this top!” I’m kind of feeling the need to find the pretty white tank as well, so it looks like educo and I will both be waiting for the answer. I’ll be keeping an eye on Miroslava’s thread from now on…
