Three ladies known best for their work in front of the camera are trying their hand at directing, with some encouragement from Glamour magazine. Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, and Eva Longoria are each making a short film based on true stories of Glamour readers.
The films will debut on October 24 in Los Angeles, but here’s the surprising part: I think that they might not be terrible. Eva Longoria and Zoe Saldana both seem thrilled to have some time behind the camera, for once. Longoria’s directing a short film about a 35-year-old that decides to have a double mastectomy (she promises it’s funny!) and Saldana’s film is about a school-age girl that feels like an alien. Both shorts sound charming, and since Longoria and Saldana pack a lot of personality, I’m pretty confident in their ability to have a vision, make a movie, take it seriously, and see it through to the end.
Olivia Wilde seems less enthusiastic. The actress didn’t even share a summary of her project with reporters, but she does grudgingly admit that knowing what’s happening on the film set might, maybe, kind of make her a better actress, you know?
