“It could have been a halfway decent effort, but because her head is placed on the G, it looks like it has been Photoshopped onto the body and looks as stiff as hell. Very odd, but great for Florence,” wrote Northern Star.
“Astonished. Not in a good way,” Empress Merel expressed. “It’s just plain awful in my opinion. I don’t like the hair, nor the styling and I could barely recognize Florence… And the white background? Boring. Lazy effort from Karl Lagerfeld but nice for Florence anyway.”
Luxx posted: “It makes perfect sense to have a musician on the cover of a music issue – that said, I would have preferred to see her shot in a way that is more recognizable. Florence has a very unique style all her own, this cover takes that away.”
TREVOFASHIONISTO laid the blame on Lagerfeld’s photography. “Florence is an excellent choice [for the cover],” he wrote. “She is very into fashion and tends to take risks with her choices plus she is a musician and not some overrated actress. In my opinion the only wrong selection about this was choosing Karl to shoot her. Inez & Vinoodh would have been perfect,” he suggested.
