If Gisele for Versace didn’t give you enough of a fix, then you’re in luck because she also stars in Givenchy’s ad campaign for Spring 2012. Though the campaign is set on the beach, don’t expect the typical fun in the sun type of shoot. Givenchy is far too moody (in the best kind of way) for that. Gisele is joined in this campaign by Riccardo Tisci’s muse and favored model Mariacarla Boscono (yay!), as well as Chris Moore and Simone Nobili. Tisci described the atmosphere as “the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid,” and photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott photographed the group with black surfboards amid a background of darkened skies and choppy waves.
There were a few detractors in the Fashion Spot forums who found the concept to be too dark and confusing, but there was also lots of love. “This is excellent,” mackos posted. “I’m so glad they shot it outside, I love the moody grayness of it. Absolutely brilliant.”
“I think it’s stunning! Absolutely flawless and I love the dark concept of it, it’s so typically Givenchy!” wrote Chanelcouture09. “I’m so pleased with how this turned out because I can’t say I was thrilled when I heard Gisele had the campaign,” he added.
“I can’t understand why I find this so damn fierce,” Elfinkova commented. “Gisele, the surfboards and the dark tone make for one amazing photo. Can’t even imagine how fierce Mariacarla is going to be in her shots. So far so good.”
I’m hopping onboard this love train because I think this moodiness at the beach is so unexpected and so well done. Plus, like the others, I think Mariacarla will be totally in her element and I can’t wait to see the shots that include her.
