Flashback: UK Harper’s Bazaar November 2008 with Stephanie Seymour by Paola Kudacki

For our flashback series this week, we’re heading across the Atlantic and taking a look at a back issue of UK Harper’s Bazaar — I can guarantee it’s a forgotten favorite. For the November 2008 cover, the Bazaar team commissioned two of Britain’s leading artists, Peter Blake and Marc Quinn, to participate in its collector’s cover project, which involved customizing the cover images with Swarovski crystals. Stephanie Seymour was Bazaar‘s model of choice, wearing a silk gown from Versace. Paola Kudacki captured the 90s supermodel for the celebratory issue, dubbed “The Icon Issue.”

Even with a cover subject like Stephanie, the icon theme is still evident when leafing through the pages of the magazine. There’s a wonderful retrospective on photographer Richard Avedon, including some of his most iconic portraits of Barbra Streisand, Sophia Loren, Charlize Theron, Bob Dylan and Mia Farrow.

The fashion content consists of two main fashion stories. One from Alexei Hay, who photographs Jeisa Chiminazzo to convey the season’s new take on grunge. Katrin Thormann is shot by Mark Pillai for a series of stark images showcasing structured and tailored pieces from Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Escada and Max Mara (I can always remember this story because it’s so fabulously 80s).

Check out the thread for the issue’s contents, where you might just find a comment of yours from 2008 (I sure did and cringed!). You can do all of that and reignite the discussion here.
