Is 15-Year-Old Kaia Gerber Too Young to Be the Face of Marc Jacobs Beauty?

Kaia Gerber has had a pretty amazing year. She posed alongside her supermodel mom Cindy Crawford on the cover of Vogue Paris back in April, went solo on the cover of POP and managed to land a place in an Alexander Wang ad campaign. So it should really come as no surprise to see Marc Jacobs snapping up the 15-year-old beauty as the face of his new makeup collection. Back in September, Jacobs gave us a sneak peek at the David Sims and Katie Grand-styled shoot, but now the official campaign image has dropped — leaving our forum members with a few questions.

“Undeniably beautiful, but there’s something eerily CGI about this image. Kaia still photographs much better than most nepotism girls. I’m getting odd Brooke Shields vibes from her in general,” Benn98 pointed out the minute the first campaign image dropped.

“I think Zendaya would have been a better choice. There is just something off about Kaia’s face. I can’t get behind it,” GivenchyHomme chimed in.

Also uneasy about Kaia’s presence was tigerrouge, writing, “When asked, a lot of celebrities seem a bit ambivalent about the prospect of their kids following in their footsteps — but I get the impression that Cindy Crawford just cannot wait to have this child working full-time as a model.”

MetroMelannie felt the same way. “I don’t know what’s the meaning of her being the face of the campaign (all nepotism apart). Sure Marc Jacobs beauty/perfumes have always had this Lolita-esque aesthetic when it comes to campaigns, but I think [she’s] too underage to embody it. It looks like [a] child playing woman,” she expressed.

“I think she is beautiful and everything, but her face is too childlike and commercial to pull this off,” confessed valliaddict.

“So, grown-up women are supposed to look like 11-year-old girls pretending to look like grown-up women? Is that the ideal aesthetic these days?” questioned a frustrated woemwoem.
