Maria Grazia Chiuri’s First Campaign for Christian Dior Looks Very High Street

We’re already starting to see a handful of Spring 2017 ad campaigns and the latest to drop is from Christian Dior. Our forums have been anticipating the debut of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first campaign for the French fashion house supporting her RTW collection shown back in September. Forum members correctly predicted that Chiuri would opt for an even more minimal aesthetic than predecessor Raf Simons. Enlisting photographer Brigitte Lacombe, twin sisters Ruth and May Bell posed together in an empty studio while showing off Dior’s new ultra-feminine aesthetic.

Our forums were keen to share their feelings toward the campaign. “Yikes,” said Scotty the moment the campaign surfaced today.

“Seriously, Yikes. Big no to all of this. If I wanted more sad teenagers I’ll just go back and look at Hedi’s Saint Laurent campaigns,” replied a startled RedSmokeRise.

Also far from impressed was anlabe32. “Two has-beens by a relatively unknown photographer, really Dior? You can do better than that, especially because this looks just like [Patrick] Demarchelier or [Willy] Vanderperre,” she pointed out.

Nymphaea wasn’t applauding either, commenting, “How immature! The models choice could have been seen from miles away after seeing the show and the recent Vogue Japan cover. And the more often I see this collection the worse it gets. What a disappointing start for Dior with Maria.”

“Looks like Gap Christmas campaign or whatever, no thanks,” laughed GivenchyAddict.

“Both the clothes and the quality of the campaign scream high street brand, except more boring. Yikes indeed,” echoed mistress_f.

Feeling the same way was Hyacinthus, expressing, “It looks like some extremely girly brand or whatever, but not DIOR! I feel disappointed!”
