A Diverse Cast of Women Covers Vanity Fair’s Annual Hollywood Issue

It’s that time of year again: Vanity Fair‘s annual Hollywood Issue has landed. Once again captured by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, the 2017 issue celebrates actresses Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Lupita Nyong’o, Emma Stone, Ruth Negga, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, Aja Naomi King, Dakota Johnson, Greta Gerwig and Janelle Monae. The wonderfully diverse cast of women pose together for a three-page cover reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood.

Naturally, the cover became the topic of immediate discussion on our forums. “That’s a lot of good-looking women looking bad (or bored). And it feels like Amy Adams is always on the cover. Not that I’m complaining, but it seems VF really likes to support her,” stated tigerrouge.

Also not exactly thrilled was Miss Dalloway: “I’m so sick of Lupita in all of these things!! She is not even part of the award buzz this season, and besides she had her moment, why not let someone else get theirs! How shameful that Ruth is on the fold out, and Lupita is on the front of the cover — same for Adam’s actually! Also no Viola, again? Ridiculous! The styling is just awful, these are such a unappealing dresses!”

HodanChloe felt the same way, expressing, “So tired of Emma, Lupita and Amy every year. Where is Naomi Harris?”

“Hopefully this means that Viola is getting the US Vogue March cover,” an eagle-eyed Scotty pointed out.

RanThe wanted to see Viola too. “So happy that Lupita finally made the front cover after being on the fold-out the past two times. I think overall it’s a really nice group shot with a few new faces! Shame that Viola isn’t in the mix,” he wrote.

“Natalie looks incredible in that shot,” described honeycombchild, going on to say, “Really happy to see Janelle in there too. I’m with everyone else on the Lupita thing and it does seem slightly confusing that she’s even on the cover at all? But then I sort of feel the same about Dakota Fanning. The other Dakota I just don’t really have interest in.”
