Vogue Italia Debuts a New Look on the May Cover, Starring Anna Ewers and David Friend

As Vogue Italia’s newly-installed editor-in-chief Emanuele Farneti puts his stamp on the Italian fashion bible, our forum members are still getting used to his creative vision. The March cover was a letdown and the last month‘s April cover story felt like imitation Steven Meisel. With the unveiling of the magazine’s May 2017 cover, however, there seems to be a glimmer of hope that things may begin to shape up. Anna Ewers graces the new cover, photographed in black and white by photographer Mario Sorrenti, posing alongside a shirtless David Friend while wearing a Max Mara sweater.

Are things looking up at Vogue Italia? “Stunning cover. Love the color choice,” commented forum member Style Savvy the second the cover came to light.

“Gorgeous! Anna is beautiful and I love the art direction; the yellow against the black and white is fantastic and I really like the type treatment. I’ve been hoping Vogue Italia’s graphic design would step up with the new editor, so fingers crossed they begin to update the look of it inside as well,” added LastNight.

“Love everything about this! It’s been a damn long while since I liked a VI cover this much,” Miss Dalloway applauded.

Also quick to declare their love for Italian Vogue‘s latest was dodencebt: “I just love it. It’s fresh, it’s energetic but melancholic at the same time, very now. It’s good that Vogue Italia has slightly departed from the usual style and I’m here for it!”

Mepps liked what he saw too, stating, “This is a beautiful cover!”

“Great cover, good layout. It makes me want to open the magazine… and that’s not so often! Anna is one of the best models nowadays, she never disappoints me,” shared a delighted Tony Fersen.

“This is a wonderful cover. The composition is interesting, the colors work well and it’s not cluttered at all,” congratulated Nomar.
