Charlize Theron Channels Her Atomic Blonde Character on W Magazine’s August Cover

Fact: Charlize Theron is seriously photogenic. Whether she’s looking effortlessly sexy on WSJ or giving it her all in an advertising campaign for Christian Dior, Charlize never disappoints. Returning to the cover for a sixth time, Charlize fronts W Magazine‘s August 2017 edition, photographed by Alasdair McLellan and styled by Edward Enninful. Sporting platinum blonde hair, a bold makeup look and wearing shocking pink Proenza Schouler, Charlize appears to be in full character ito promote her highly anticipated Atomic Blonde movie.

The cover and accompanying spread divided our forums, however. “I simply cannot hate on this. My anticipation for Atomic Blonde is much too overwhelming. Even without my bias, it’s still a gorgeous cover (when considered in the right context). There’s definitely some retouching on her face, but it looks fine. Would never have imagined this to be shot by Alasdair,” wrote forum member Benn98 the moment the cover dropped.

“Yes, I’m here for Charlize channeling her Atomic Blonde character, but wow would never guess it’s by Alasdair!” Miss Dalloway echoed.

“I have a hard time believing this was by McLellan. It’s beautiful but so unlike his work,” quipped WilliamsLe010919.

“Beautiful cover,” commented jal718.

But not everyone was in favor of the outcome. “Did someone rehash that awful Taylor Swift wig from Vogue May 2016? Kidding. Anyway, it looks rough,” mocked MON.

“Oh man, that hair and the heavy makeup,” shared an unforgiving t-rex.

“Her first shoot that I hate. Awful,” DutchHomme described.

Forum member darri wasn’t into the cover either. “Obviously this is Charlize in character but McLellan falls short of producing anything remarkable. His work lacks edge to bring this alive.”
