Valentina Sampaio Becomes Vogue Brazil’s First Transgender Cover Girl

Brazil is known for championing home-grown talent and we half-expected to see Gisele Bündchen back on the cover as the magazine closes the door on 2017, but the publication does one better by embracing transgender beauty Valentina Sampaio. She broke down boundaries back in March by becoming the first transgender model to grace Voguecovering Vogue Paris — and she’s at it again. Photographed by Gui Paganini, the 20-year-old Brazilian native works her magic on two different covers for the December edition.

“The first one (above) is a tad corny for my taste, but I like the second cover! It’s a great, classic, and glamorous way to end 2017. And no ‘trans’ tag in sight, which for me is a plus. Just a focus on Valentina’s beauty, that’s all,” admired forum member Benn98 upon checking out the covers.

Miss Dalloway agreed about the magazine’s cover lines, writing, “I really do enjoy a nice smile on a Vogue cover, and her hair looks great as well. The other one is so not necessary! And Benn98, I second that! Nice they didn’t need to use that tagline!”

“The lovely Valentina, back on a cover that I would buy, if only I could… but only the first one, the second looks more like a shot of someone’s tiled bathroom,” voiced tigerrouge.

“Valentina is amazing, but this is a big no to me. The second cover is one of the worst ever. The best Brazilian fashion magazine is ELLE,” declared a less than impressed ciaoherrero.

Also not much of a fan was celloiof. “I really disliked the first one, it’s more suited for an Instagram pic, not for a magazine cover. The second I think is acceptable but still a turn-off after the November cover, that looked so good in the newsstands and billboards,” he stated.

Guimon wasn’t having any of it, complaining, “Valentina is stunning, but I don’t like any of these covers.”
