Nothing makes us more excited than a Steven Meisel campaign and the legendary lensman just made a surprise appearance as Jimmy Choo’s photographer for Spring 2019. Replacing Lachlan Bailey, Meisel shakes up the casting, enlisting Kaia Gerber in lieu of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lily Aldridge and Joan Smalls. The 17-year-old model of the year (who now needs no introduction) looks pretty confident in her role as the face of Jimmy Choo under the styling Joe McKenna.

Despite Choo hiring one of the best photographers in the business, our forums weren’t so convinced. “Jimmy Choo by Meisel? He’s really like a cat, always landing on both feet! It seems there’s always someone willing to tighten their belt and commission him for a campaign. Looks like it could be a Karl Lagerfeld campaign. Very cold and commercial,” Benn98 discredited.
“I’m not liking it either,” mikel chimed in.
“This doesn’t look like Meisel at all! Commercial and boring,” echoed apple.

Guimon agreed: “I got excited when I read the title, but the images are really boring. This is too commercial. Looks like a Adidas ad. I was expecting glamour, classy, high heels!”
“Meisel is like [Helmut] Newton now: straight to the bank. The campaign itself is a non-event (Meisel’s involvement here is the event) but the products are super tacky,” added Lola701.
“Embarrassing. Meisel is taking these brands for a ride with these awful studio campaigns,” said 333101.
Is Meisel spreading himself too thin lately? A waste of Kaia Gerber? See more from Jimmy Choo’s new campaign and join the debate here.
