After a three-year stint at the helm of Givenchy, Matthew M. Williams is to depart the fabled French fashion house as creative director. The American designer’s departure will be effect January 1, 2024 and his last collection for Givenchy will be Pre-Fall 2024 (set to be unveiled later this month). Upon departing Givenchy, the designer is set to focus and continue on his own label: 1017 Alyx 9SM. Williams’ successor has not yet been named, which has ultimately set our forums ablaze with rumors and reactions.

“We did it guys, he’s finally out!” [perhydrol]
“FINALLY! Who is going to take over?” [Salvatore]
“My pick is Kim Jones or Sarah Burton.” [Kite]
“Expected and I’m glad. But I won’t get my hopes up for the future because who knows what fresh hell LVMH may bring in to take over from Matthew.” [Cocteau Stone]
“It’s funny to think that for 3 years this man designed clothes only for them to fill the Givenchy outlets around the world. I would love for LVMH to bet on a real talent for once like Haider Ackermann or Martine Rose. Why not even Bruno Sialelli.” [Lola701]
“So happy he is out but for me Givenchy will always be Riccardo [Tisci]’s love. That’s why it’s so tricky to pick a right designer and frankly I don’t think they can afford another flop of that magnitude. There are so many talented designers and I feel like we’ll end up with another streetwear white dude. Shame, Sarah Burton would do wonders there with couture!” [Olaffo]
“It’s about damn time. LVMH is quite generous with him to let him finish his 3 years contract.” [THD96]
