Willow Smith Makes a Bold Statement on the May 2024 Covers of Allure

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again: Allure doesn’t slap like it used to. However, we’re massive hopefully things are about to head in the right direction. After all, something must be happening over at Allure HQ given the fact last month’s Shakira offering impressed us here at theFashionSpot to no end. Up next as the magazine’s cover star is Willow Smith. Via the lens of photographer Zhong Lin, the American singer poses across a twosome of bold, graphic and dynamic covers. In cover one (below), Willow dons a jacket and skirt from New York City-based fashion brand Bad Binch TongTong (constructed entirely out of a bath mat), selected for the occasion by stylist Shiona Turini. In the second cover (after the jump), Willow gazes down Lin’s lens sporting a vivid animalesque makeup look.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

Urban Stylin commented: “I like the colors of the first cover. However, the outfit and cloudy masthead could have been different.”

“More suited to a cartoon book cover. The logo effect bothers me and the outfit is tragic,” exclaimed MModa.

“Graphic design is my passion,” laughed avonlea022, suggesting the art direction was severely lacking.

“Again, a waste of pixels,” sighed an underwhelmed blueorchid.

“What happened? Especially with the second cover! Did she let birds poop on her?” quizzed oaklee91.

“To be completely honest, I’ve seen worse,” admitted vogue28. “Not a fan of Willow Smith whatsoever but these covers feel like a step in the right direction for Allure. I like the black background, the vivid makeup looks and how bold and graphic the two covers are.”
