Alert: Starbucks’ much-awaited, much-speculated-about Unicorn Frappuccinos are only hours away. Days ago, baristas on Reddit’s Starbucks page sent the Internet all a-tizzy by posting pictures of mysterious pink and blue powders, followed by snaps of full-on, whipped-cream-topped, questionably colored coffee creations.
Today, the caffeine slingers (and marketing geniuses) confirmed the rumors: Unicorn frappuccinos do exist, but only for the next four days. From Wednesday, April 19 through Sunday, April 23, fans of all that is glittery and unicorn-themed can imbibe (or just Instagram) the color- and flavor-changing blended beverage.
“The Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème is made with a sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping,” Starbucks explained in a release.
Suffice it to say the fleeting frapp isn’t for those who take their coffee straight. “Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème comes with a bit of magic, starting as a purple beverage with swirls of blue and a first taste that is sweet and fruity,” the release continues. “But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart. The more swirl, the more the beverage’s color and flavors transform.”
Our feelings are best described as dubious, yet intrigued. One thing we do know for certain? With this (reportedly 475-calorie) beverage, we’ve reached peak unicorn trend.
