The Blonds S/S 2011

With Heatherette gone, The Blonds rounded out New York Fashion Week with a healthy dose of fun. The small, made-to-order line is known for making outrageous outfits popular among cross-dressing club kids and tabloid-stalked celebrities. A heavily corseted crowd that included Patricia Field, Kristin Cavallari, and Alan Cumming set the mood for the show. The Blonds came heavy with the camp, opening the show with cabaret dancers dressed in fishnets, waving feathered fans.

Costume-y tuxedos were emblazoned with sparkles, and barely-there bikinis leaked out of silk dressing gowns.

Barbie, followed by bigger-than-life bows, was a major motif this season. The designers were so inspired by Barbie that they collaborated with Mattel, the legendary toy company, to create outfits for the doll, and a special edition handbag (for humans).

The collection’s standouts included glittery disco gowns, a blazer cinched beneath a Deco-inspired, crystal encrusted corset belt, and of course, the brand’s signature embellished corsets, which looked as over-the-top as ever. The corsets came adorned with swirling lines of pearls, rainbow crystals, and faux flowers. Closing the show, supermodel Selita Ebanks walked in a lime green floral bustier dress that overflowed with tack. But then, isn’t that what The Blonds is all about?
