It’s about time that corset-and-cone bra creator Jean Paul Gaultier team up with a luxury lingerie brand. Though I would have guessed Agent Provocateur or Kiki de Montparnasse as Gaultier’s go-to houses, the designer opted to collaborate with lingerie company, La Perla – and yes, he did fashion a cone bra for the label. Hello, 1990 Blond Ambition tour!
Called the Jean Paul Gaultier Collection Createur, the limited edition line has just launched in La Perla and Jean Paul Gaultier stores, as well as select department stores. To celebrate its launch, La Perla hosted a cocktail presentation at their Madison Avenue New York City flagship store, where guests were invited to shop the collection over cocktails – liquid courage is in order to squeeze into one of the boldly designed pieces.
Not for the demure, the sexy collection plays up La Perla’s signature femininity with a mega-dose of Gaultier’s sartorial seduction– think sheer panels, cut-outs, and elaborate shoulder details. Included in the lineup are waist-cinching corsets, slips, high-cut briefs, and bustiers in black and pale pink, for a total of 27 styles, nearly all of which are handmade.
Prices range from $600 for bras to $1,200 for corsets.
