Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2011

Michael Kors has been getting a lot of attention lately, for remarks he made at his Pre-Fall 2011 presentation; here’s one: “All you writers in the room need to come up with a new word. ‘Pre’ [as in pre-fall] is disgusting,” the designer said. “You see everyone in the front row bundled in furs and tweeds in September, and it looks insane!”

Resort collections are an easier sell because the name is more appealing. “Everyone knows now that resort is important, but because the name ‘pre-fall’ is so ugly, no one wants to acknowledge that these are the clothes you actually put in your closet,” Kors went on to say.  While I do agree that the Resort collections, which are available now, get a lot more attention than the Pre-Fall collections, available May through July, we all know it has a lot to do with the tradition of runway season. Chanel in St. Tropez, anyone?

Heavy on blue, red, and black, Kors opted for few prints in his focused collection of tailored and color-blocked separates and dresses. With nearly 30 looks, Kors made his way from daywear to cocktail, then finished off with three sexy gowns, one with a thigh-high slit, and another with two below-the-bust cut-outs and leather detailing. Pre-Fall collections tend to be safer, and more wearable, so it’s nice to see Kors go for a bolder look than his norm!
