Ports 1961 Pre-Fall 2011

Fiona Cibani has a Ports 1961 men’s collection in the works, and has been well received in the fashion community since taking the design reigns from her sister, Tia Cibani. She recently presented her Pre-Fall 2011 collection, “L’Heure Bleue” – or, the blue hour as it’s translated.

Some might associate the color blue with melancholy, but Cibani sees it as an optimistic shade. The artist Gerhard Richter, who is best known for his photo-realistic paintings of hazy landscapes, inspired her collection.

Cibani created her prints by photographing metallic film and crinkled irridescent cellophane with an unfocused lens, in natural light; the illuminated colors of the synthetic materials were isolated and harmonized, then computer-enhanced and digitally printed onto silk and satin.

Pieces range from draped jackets belted at the waist and feather-embellished sweaters, to flair-legged trousers and pencil skirts. Most importantly, this collection is approachable and includes a handful of breezy, demure, floor-sweeping gowns.
