Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2011

Aside from serving sweet treats set up amidst bouquets of flowers in a four story West Village townhouse, models were “put to work” (as they have been in similarly light-hearted staged collections in seasons past), roasting marshmallows, gaping in front of screens, and lounging about decked in the designer’s lingerie. The result was a welcomed alternative to most of the industry’s stiff presentations and a perfect reflection of the comfortable nature of McCartney’s vegetarian line.

Fern, geometric, striped, and color-blocked prints added visual interest to McCartney’s signature lineup of long sleeve dresses, boxy coats, sweater dresses, and capes. Silhouettes were unexpectedly oversized (more so than usual, perhaps because the designer was pregnant while designing the collection), but most were structured in a clean, easy-to-wear style that gave the collection high, multi-generational appeal.
