Marc Bouwer Fall 2011 Runway Review

There was a very large crowd at the trendy Soho House waiting to view red carpet favorite Marc Bouwer‘s Fall 2011 collection; the fete was entirely different from a runway show. Marc chose to show his collection in the form of a 3D mini-film, featuring the model Selita Ebanks. We were given 3D glasses after a seemingly endless battle to file into the screening room, after cocktails and a glimpse of Selita herself. Finally, we settled back in super comfortable armchairs – a surprise for fashion week – and waited to see what Bouwer would deliver.

The collection was classic Bouwer: short hemlines, Herve Leger-esque body-hugging dresses covered in sequins and beads in dark hues, long billowing grecian goddess gowns in dramatic reds and soft whites, and the occassional power shoulder and large rose detailing. It seemed that the party dress was more alive than ever, and Marc recreated it in 3D. Plunging necklines were de rigueur, and figure-hugging silk and jersey seemed to be the fabric of choice.

Placed in front of dazzling images of the universe, and appearing to float in mid-air whilst resplendant in sequins, Selita showed off the gowns in 3D images of space, with stars and mini-moons floating past our ears. Dramatic gowns were set in forests and woodlands, with Selita posing wide-eyed and moving slowly through time and space. The soundtrack was dreamy, and lulled us into a magical place where sequined gowns ruled the universe, making Marc’s collection seem like a fairytale. Check out the video below:
