Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011 Runway Review

Oscar de la Renta has carved out a market for himself that was once thought impossible. He nurtures a groomed and well-heeled uptown clientele while maintaining mainstream (read: celebrity fueled) buzz with stunning and revered eveningwear. The brand has had a youthful rejuvenation in the past few seasons with Erika Bearman, otherwise known as OscarPRGirl, becoming an internet celebrity as one of the industry’s most captivating insiders. Through her well read Twitter and Tumblr pages, Bearman offers a look inside the closed doors of the designer’s collections and through which has endeared an entirely new audience for the brand.

This season, the designer demonstrated true inspiration by drawing from experiences he has never had. In spite of never having traveled to the region, the eastern influences infused in the collection looked well curated and refined. Ottoman jacquard jackets embroidered with gold bouillon opened the show and a dramatic wintery story followed with luxe textures and rich textiles as the stars.

The mixed prints that reigned heavy at the beginning gave way to sophisticated eveningwear that, when paired with impeccable outerwear, appeared more wearable than ever. The price point may be outside the realm of possibility for most young women, but with the cool-factor rapidly rising, it isn’t hard to believe this collection will be on every girls wish list.
