Aquascutum designed a collection with a younger audience in mind this season. Founded in 1951, the established design house has made a name for itself in creating exquisite English outerwear and impeccably tailored clothing. The focus is on overcoats, jackets and raincoats, which is exactly what new creative designer Joanna Sykes concentrated on. Bringing a young and fresh perspective to the mature brand, the 2001 Central Saint Martins graduate experimented with layering and multi-functional overcoats.
Lengths of outerwear varied from knee length to floor length and ranged in colors from slate blue, beige, khaki, and burnt orange. The patterns were geometric in shape and showed up on sleeveless sweaters and soft dresses. There was a menswear inspired element in the trouser pants and of course the overcoats that were oversized with accentuated shoulders.
Sweet, colorful skirts and a bright sweaters were what peaked out underneath. Some hemlines were asymmetrical while other looks were monochromatic but ranged in tone, creating a color blocking effect. A few, deep plunging neckline gowns cascaded down the runway reminding everyone this is a fashion show for grown women.
