Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2011 Runway Review

Monochromatic collections have become something of a trend in Milan with designers sticking to neutrals across the board, and we’re seeing it here again at Salvatore Ferragamo with a mainly black and grey collection. Power dressing went out in the 80s, thank goodness, but we saw elements of it here with men’s tailoring and super plunging necklines throughout.

There was just enough femininity, with the smooth draped evening looks and soft sheer shirts to keep it from being one-note, but it was the dramatic tailored looks that stole the show. It’s certainly a hard look to pull off without looking like you belong in a Robert Palmer video, but with some styling, there are looks in this collection that when separated could easily work into a modern woman’s Fall wardrobe.

Noteworthy looks included the effortlessly draped, but surprisingly feminine, oversized pinstripe suit and the sheer shirt paired with a more relaxed fit trouser. Women may not go as far as to wear a full suit next season but with careful layering and a keen eye, this collection could be a great success.
