Zac Posen didn’t show the most well received collection when he made his Paris debut last season, but the designer seems to have taken in all the criticism to take his work in a less over-the-top, more streamlined, and wearable way. The drama of hyper embellished looks was gone in favor of a clean cut offering that nonetheless maintained the essence of the Zac Posen flair.
The collection included Posen’s signature sexpot mermaid silhouette, sheer bottom gowns (an emerging trend that owes much to Marc Jacobs’ collection last season), diminutive ruffles, and sexy bustier tops, which this season included one made out of black crocodile skin that played well with the array of fitted leather looks from last season. The result when it came to Posen, best known for his eveningwear, was a gorgeous lineup of red carpet gowns that, while more subdued than what the designer typically shows, had an eye-catching appeal.
For day, Posen offered smart staples including cropped pants, fitted turtlenecks, skin-tight dresses including, most notably, a blue long sleeve day dress with a sculpted neck, fitted blazers, including a plum blazer with a contrasting black leather swirl pattern, and a few outerwear fur moments as has been de rigueur this season.
