Rainbow colored hair piled on top of the head, ripped black mesh and historical hoop skirts could only come from a creative fashion designer like Yohji Yamamoto. The Fall 2011 collection was in opposition, showing a bit of sweetness and a bit of youthful rage. However, the clothes were consistent in creating a solid and cohesive collection that worked together.
Marie Antoinette was an obvious inspiration shown in the half covered, red hoop skirts and romantic layers of chiffon. A series of flower, paisley, and lace printed tights were worn with black coats and asymmetrical black dresses. The historical reference could also be seen in the silhouettes and styling choices which included a Victorian velvet jacket and lace up booties.
Colors were mostly black with a few pops of pastel blue and fire engine red. Although the look was rebellious and a bit punk, there still was a romantic femininity in the soft layers and gauzy fabrications.
