Resort Report 2012: YSL, Erdem, Dior, and More

The major news at this point in the Resort season was post-John Galliano Christian Dior. Unfortunately for the French brand, the season’s collection was outshone by a number of other power players. Here’s a look at some of the most notable recent Resort 2012 collections (for a look at what has come before click here, here, and here).

Yves Saint Laurent: Red, black, bare midriffs, and nautical touches like anchors and stripes were the major takeaways from this season’s Stefano Pilati-designed 2012 YSL collection (and of course the news that the designer is “very scared” of bloggers).

Erdem: Resort would have been an easy excuse to bust out the florals we have come to expect from Erdem Moralioglu, but the designer mixed things up, adding some muted tones and houndstooth fashioned into beautifully structured, 50s-inspired pieces.

Christian Dior: Post-Galliano Resort 2012 was hit or miss for the brand. The Moroccan-influenced collection had some beautiful pieces including a flowing, embellished blue gown and a bow-accented mini, but caftans and tunics fell flat.

Etro: With its bright colors and vibrant prints, Etro is a brand that can easily intimidate. This season, however, Veronica Etro worked in some everyday solids making for an approachable collection that managed to still stay true to the brand.

Boss Black: With its cut-to-perfection men’s suiting, it’s easy to forget that Hugo Boss makes some killer womenswear. This season, Eyan Allen showed once again that Boss deserves to have more of a presence on the red carpet with a collection that showcased both vibrant prints and sleekly tailored separates.
