Nearly a decade ago I splurged on two Lulu Guinness weekender bags at Bergdorf Goodman, one covered in a dog print and another covered in a cocktail print. Fast forward nine years and not only are the two bags still in tact, someone compliments me on them nearly every time I tote one of the styles. Fittingly, Lulu Guinness, famous for her witty handbags, is expanding her travel line by partnering with Pelham Leather Goods Ltd for a new line of Lulu Guinness luggage. The first collection will consist of carry-on luggage, wheeled luggage, luggage sets, and travel totes designed with the female traveler in mind. The line is slated to launch August 8 in Guinness’ Bleecker Street New York City store and for all U.S. customers online.
Among Guinness’ most recognizable designs is her lip clutch, which comes in a slew of iterations so it’s fitting that the designer took her iconic lips and stamped them onto the hard cased luggage in the collection, which come in black and red. When asked by Vogue UK to describe the collection, the designer said it’s a “collection of chic, feminine suitcases [designed] especially for women who travel a lot with work,” adding that she feels there is “a lack of stylish, inexpensive suitcases for women.” Guinness’ line will range in price from $299 to $399 for the hard sided lips and from $259 to $299 for the jacquard lips.
To celebrate the collection, entitled The World is Your Oyster, Lulu has collaborated with award-winning animation director Vicky Mather to create a short film using Mather’s creative style of stop motion animation and live action. Guinness is said to have worked closely with the director to bring the collection to life in the brand’s first animated film, which depicts the adventures and travels of the designer’s luggage (below).
Aside from the travel collection, Guinness is launching a powder compact range and has new store openings slated for Korea, Kuala Lumpur, and in the UK, so it looks like ladies coast-to-coast will soon be able to pamper themselves with some quirky finds.
