Rützou Spring 2012
Sweden has way more to offer by way of design than Ikea and Acne and that’s becoming increasingly more apparent with the continued growth of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm, which took place from August 9 through August 11 and capped off with late-night shopping and a slew of open-to-the-public Fashion Night events.
Ida Sjöstedt Spring 2012
One of the most highly regarded Fashion Weeks in Scandinavia, it was established in 2005 and there are about forty local designers that showcase their wares bi-annually.
Among the most notable this season was Rützou, whose Spring 2012 collection included a slew of loosely draped dresses and separates done in a mostly neutral palette. Pops of bright yellow, sheer touches, and tribal-inspired bold jewelry added visual interest to the wholly wearable collection.
Mayla Spring 2012
The sheer and lace trends that were featured so prominently on the Fall 2011 runways and the head-to-toe pajama-inspired looks popular on the 2012 Resort runways made their way back in an array of iterations at Ida Sjöstedt, while over on the Mayla runway, it was mostly cocktail and day dresses done in a variety of solid and print iterations. Each look was paired with peep-toe black shoes and a black turban.
HOPE Spring 2012
Best known for its durable outerwear for both men and women, HOPE’s Ann Ringstrand and Stefan Söderberg collection was titled The Paint It Blue Collection and fittingly including pops of blue among the neutral separates, resulting in a collection rife with everyday closet staples. Busnel was similarly focused on outerwear for spring with a collection that prominently featured officer’s jackets, ponchos, and trench coats.
