Peter Som Spring 2012 Runway Review

The New York Times recently profiled select designers and asked them how 9/11 has affected their business. Among them was Peter Som and it’s clear that in many respects he’s come a long way in the last decade. Expanding upon the simple, elegantly feminine dresses we already know Som can do well, the designer displayed some of the running trends thus far and presented a collection that was full of bright colors and vibrant prints – a number of which included oversized realist florals that recalled the Spring 2011 Jil Sander (who also showed candy-colored oversized florals) and Stella McCartney (who showed citrus fruits so real you could almost taste the juice oozing from the garments) collections.

Prints asides, there were some monochromatic separates and dresses, also done in vivid colors, including gowns finished with thigh-high slits for an overall feel-good collection that one can’t help but smile when looking at.

As for the shoes, they were done in collaboration with Charlotte Olympia, and came in a variety of colors to impeccably complement the various looks. Ditto for the beauty look which included rose-gold hair pieces layered into the models’ hair.

I, for one, would be very surprised if we didn’t see a number of stars opting to wear some of the oversized floral printed separates and dresses (especially those with the high slits) in the coming months.
