House of Holland Spring 2012 Runway Review

This season’s House of Holland collection included color-blocked button downs, bleach-splattered jeans, mesh tops, tartans, python suspenders, and ombré animal-like print all done in candy-colored pastels. Similar to Jeremy Scott and Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Henry Holland’s collections need always be taken with a sense of humor; that said, there’s something off-putting about a collection inspired by skinheads (more specifically, Gavin Watson photographs of skinheads and punks), even if Holland’s pink, purple, mint, and baby blue hued take on their “uniform” is far from anything a skinhead would ever opt to wear. Inspiration aside, the collection felt fresh and more wearable than what we’ve seen from the designer in past seasons.
