Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess Exhibition

Grace Kelly is one of the most famous actresses of the 50s, whose beauty and style will continue to inspire generations to come. Early in her career, she had a certain je ne sais quoi that would later see her crowned as Princess of Monaco. Exuding the look of the all American girl next door with class and royalty, it wasn’t long until she won everyone over with her sheer elegance. Princess Grace developed an iconic signature style, one that we can still see inspiring many designers and fashion trends even today. Cinched waist, full skirt, off the shoulder or thin strapped dresses, sheer wrap, and of course white gloves are just a of the few things that are synonymous with her many looks.

It’s no wonder fashion designers were so fascinated by Kelly, she served as inspiration to many of her favourite designers including Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, and Givenchy. We can’t forget, of course, the famous Hermes Kelly Bag that is still one of the most sought after handbags of all time.

Lucky for Toronto, TIFF is the only stop in North America hosting Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess until January 22, 2012 at Tiff Bell Lightbox. This exhibition took my breath away, I might have to head over to see it once again. There is so much to see, from the gowns, to the jewellery, to the carefully selected artifacts, you will truly enjoy it from beginning to end.

I’ve talked enough on the matter, the pictures speak for themselves.
