Last week in Toronto, Guess celebrated its 30th anniversary campaign featuring legendary supermodel Claudia Schiffer. To tie it all in, they also released a capsule collection featuring some of the most iconic looks from the past 30 years. I sat down with Greg Moreau, director of stores for Guess, to ask him a few questions about the campaign.
The Fashion Spot: Describe the capsule collection.
Greg Moreau: The 30th anniversary women’s capsule collection captures the brand’s most iconic looks from the past 30 years, combining original styling and washes with contemporary influences. For example, the sexy Marilyn jean, which helped position Guess as a major fashion brand, has been recreated and reinvented for today’s woman.
The limited-edition women’s capsule collection launched in stores and online on April 24, 2012. The invite-only event to celebrate the launch took place on Thursday, April 26 at the flagship Guess store on Queen St. West.
tFS: What is the capsule collection inspired by? What can we expect to see reflected in the collection?
GM: In commemoration of the 30th anniversary, Guess released the limited-edition women’s capsule collection to celebrate 30 sexy years of innovative designs, pride, and success. Expect to see gingham tops with tie-waists and vintage tees with the original Guess logo. Guess was built upon the idea of the free-spirited, adventurous lifestyle. Our goal has always been to create head-turning designs that will keep a woman feeling sexy and distinctive, which the capsule collection embodies.
tFS: What are your favourite pieces in the collection?
GM: Standout pieces from the anniversary capsule collection include the iconic lace bustier made famous by Claudia Schiffer, and the classic white cigarette jean printed with bold yellow daisies, first worn by Eva Herzigova.
tFS: What would you tell our readers is a must-have in the collection?
GM: The great thing about this collection is that the pieces are versatile, so it’s easy to work them into your existing wardrobe. A must-have in the collection has to be the Beverly Sophie Gingham pants. As one of our most classic cuts, these jeans add just the right amount of retro to your look, and can be styled with bright separates for that on-trend flare.
