World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto
IMG Fashion has announced World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto will host more than 50 designers on the runway and studio from Monday, October 22 to Friday, October 26. Many are hoping that with the new IMG Canada ownership, the week is sure to inspire the country’s fashion industry and continue to put Canadian design on the global map. Even though the event happens a month after New York and London, after big time buyers have already placed their orders.
This year, designers will showcase their Spring/Summer 2013 collections at Toronto’s iconic David Pecaut Square, with collections from the following designers and brands: Adrian Wu, AlliStyle, Ashtiani, Bustle, David Dixon, DeMOYO, Evan Biddell, Express, Holt Renfrew, Joe Fresh, KORHANI home, Lucian Matis, Mackage, Melissa Nepton, Paraezo Couture, Pavoni, Pink Tartan, Rachel Sin, Soia & Kyo, Travis Taddeo, Triarchy, Unttld, Vawk, Whitney Linen and Mercedes-Benz Start Up Presents Caitlin Powers, Christopher Bates, Dreamboat Lucy, DUY, Lauren Bagliore, Malorie Urbanovitch, Nicole Campre and Pure Magnolia. I’ve already been fortunate enough to glimpse Lucian Matis’ S/S collection and it’s nothing short of dream. Et voila…
Vancouver’s Eco Fashion Week
But before we get too excited, there’s a new kid town, which may draw much more of an international crowd. Only in its fifth season, Vancouver’s Eco Fashion Week takes place just days before Toronto (Oct. 16 to 19) and offers an award-winning lineup of fashion shows, featuring green national and international brands such as Quebec designers Atelier B. and Respecterre and Mala Imports from Bali, Indonesia.
“Eco Fashion Week is going into its second year and fifth season with an incredible program that we are all really proud about,” says Myriam Laroche, founder of Eco Fashion Week. “With a growing consciousness and consumer interest in sustainable clothing, we are poised to host our most successful event yet.”
Already Eco Fashion Week has become recognized as one of the leading sustainable fashion events in the industry and it brings in a whopping $300 billion a year in revenue. My most anticipated show? Value Village’s Thrift Chic Runway Show on October 17. Here stylists are each be given a $500 budget to buy clothes at Value Village and style 10 to 15 looks.
