2012 is drawing to a close, and it’s the time of year that we look back and reminisce about the most memorable, buzz-worthy , and odd moments that occurred in the last 365 days. Designer musical chairs reached epic proportions, model mania is as frenzied as ever, and Photoshop sunk to new lows. In that spirit, and in honor of 2012, we’ve gathered twelve of the stories, topics, events, and personalities that were worthy of our prolonged attention this year.
Forum Highlights: The Buzziest Moments of 2012
12. Miley Cyrus Cut Her Hair
Miley cut her hair , going platinum blonde, cropped, and shorn in an edgy British sort of style. She quickly became a trending topic on twitter (and in the forums) as a result.

This annual lingerie fashion show is always an epic, highly anticipated event in the forums. Tons of hot models, lots of skin, minimal clothing. What’s not to like?

10. Maison Martin Margiela x H&M Madness
H&M’s Maison Martin Margiela capsule collection generated a ton of buzz. We at tFS provided the first glimpse of the collection , and Sam Taylor-Johnson photographed an avant garde ad campaign worthy of the architectural clothing. Whether the collection was actually a success is still up for debate .

9. i-D Put Out a Million Magazine Covers
i-D generated such a high volume of covers for each of its issues this year that it truly felt like they may have topped out at a million. Some were great, some were not, but forum members definitely thought that less could have been more. We’re going to go ahead and stand by our declaration that Grace Coddington’s cover was the best of the bunch .

8. Everyone Was Obsessed With Lana Del Rey
Whether we were (begrudgingly) loving, hating, or loving to hate Lana del Rey this year, we were undeniably obsessed with her. She modeled for H&M , graced what felt like a million magazine covers (see Vogue UK , and Interview Russia ), and put out epic music video after epic music video (see 'National Anthem ' and 'Ride ').

5. Kate Upton Goes High Fashion
Kate Upton may have emerged on the fashion scene by spilling out of the itty bittiest bikini of all time on the cover of Sports Illustrated , but it’s her forays into high fashion (see her Vogue Italia cover ) that were really noteworthy this year. Some forum members may still need (a lot of) convincing, but with people like Anna Wintour and Franca Sozzani in her corner, curvaceous Kate is conquering modeling from all angles.

4. Joan Smalls is Actually the World's Top Model
House of Style host Joan Smalls had a stellar 2012. It’s no accident that this “Model of the Year” recipient snagged the number one spot on models.com’s list of the Top 50 Models .
She made her first appearance on the cover of Vogue Italia ’s March issue marked her first Vogue cover, and she followed that up with appearances on the covers of Vogue Australia and W among others.
Joan also appeared in a slew of campaigns for brands liks Givenchy , Fendi , Gucci , and more. Not bad at all.

2. Raf Simons Takes the Top Seat at Dior
The bigwigs at Christian Dior finally appointed a new Creative Director almost a year after Galliano -gate. Lucky for us, Raf Simons was happy to take the job and bring Dior in a fresh new direction. 1. Hedi Slimane
Stefano Pilati was out and Hedi Slimane moved in to the top spot at Yves Saint Laurent . The designer promptly announced that he would be designing the French brand from his Los Angeles studio , he (shockingly) changed the name of the main line to Saint Laurent Paris , and followed up the name change with a (boring) new logo . And the verdict on his first collection ? Meh.
