With New York Fashion Week around the corner, we asked some of our favorite designers to share a sketch from their forthcoming Fall 2013 collections, along with their seasonal inspiration.
Fall 2013 Sketches
Dennis Basso
“My 30th anniversary collection is a tribute to the great American fashion icons. Women such as Babe Paley, Gloria Guinness and Milicent Rogers embody the glamour, strength and elegance that has inspired me throughout my career.”
BCBGMAXAZRIA
“Mystery of Istanbul.”

“Opulence in nature.”
Rachel Roy
"Global artistic expression informs the modern exotic with re-imagined shape, color and texture."
Rebecca Taylor
"Fall 2013 silhouettes are modern and clean with organic architectural embellishments, colorblocking and fabric mixing. Soft silks both opaque and sheer with subtle textures are contrasted with modern structured tailoring and leather to create tension and balance. Prints are textural and graphic composed with a color palette grounded in muted neutrals and accented with blushy pinks, cognacs and scarlet."
Tracy Reese
"The collection is very much inspired by New York with all its harshness and beauty. It combines a variety of rich textures and both feral and romantic patterns for a collection of sexy silhouettes with an emphasis on hourglass dresses, longer slim skirts, sweater tunics and bold, meaty jackets and coats. Black in all of its magnificence, from deep velvety darkness to textured patent refraction, anchors a palette highlighted by scarlet, cerise, teal, aubergine, tan and lychee. With a strong dress presence in this season's collection, a classic and flattering Floral Frock in Scarlet is embellished with delicate beading and paired with a flat closed-toe bootie to create a timeless and modern, yet easy-to-wear look."
Tadashi Shoji
“The fall of the Romanov dynasty.”

“Fall 2013 is inspired by enchanted and fresh romanticism.”
Monika Chiang
“I’m fascinated by mechanics, the bold geometry and graphic shapes created through flight. It is that raw power and beauty that is at the heart of my Fall 2013 collection.”
Son Jung Wan
“This season I was inspired by two great Russian works of art: Kandinsky’s balance of color and the ornate lines seen throughout Catherine Palace.”
Degen
"FW13 at Degen is a total tribute to my geneticist parents. Expect germs, viruses, mucus and SLiMe!"
Saunder
"Saunder's Fall/Winter 2013 collection was inspired by 1970s rock'n'roll. I used a lot of rich colors and textures to reflect the depth of the music and found modern ways to reflect the feeling of the era."
Katie Gallagher
"The design direction is guided by the idea of new beginnings, freezing a memory in time so that we can draw from the glow of what once was. There is an inherent melancholy to this idea at its surface."
Pamella Roland
"For Fall 2013, I was inspired by the ornate interior of the winter palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia."
Piper Gore
"My collection can be summed up by a quote from French architect Le Corbusier about the Jeanneret House he built: 'Everybody rises to be near its neighbor, according to an organic reason, the campaign to ease the internal and define the outside, it takes all kinds of projections.' I based my collection around a window of the house as inspiration."

"For AW13 I was looking at the structure and texture of beautiful aquatic flora and fauna, using it as a jumping off point for a color story and embroidery.”
Charlotte Ronson
"This season I am keeping it close to home and taking inspiration from my British heritage, touching on the 1960's silhouette and it's graphic elements. Colors are deep and saturated and the feeling is a little tougher and more angular."
