The inspiration behind Temperley’s AW 13 collection was Hitchcock’s famed star Tippi Hedren from his infamous film The Birds, which completely explains why she entitled her range “Byrds” this season. Camp Temperley explained that the aim was to design a line that combined tailoring and graphics to create the feel of vulnerability yet prowess.
Prints were key, as the color palette ranged from variations of cream, navy and cobalt upon which emerald and gold were added to add that extra special allure. The tailoring was sharp and fabrics emerged in the form of Italian jacquard, cashmere and British checked wool.
The collection switched between soft, pale floaty numbers, including Temperley’s typical sheer panel pieces, luxurious darker items struck a dark contrast including coats in striking midnight blue with extra fierce collars. It was clear that Temperley’s aim was to create a range that fit the modern day woman, who’s feminine and chic yet has a darker side.
No Temperley show is complete without their signature gowns, and the show-stopping dress of this collection had to be the sheer embroidered white gown complete with feather-come-scale scallop detail. Gowns were embellished with jewel detailing upon the shoulders, beading and delicate scarves were also prominent down the back of the high neck numbers. Other highlights included the use of heavy metal brocade in gold, which drew gasps of utter delight, and delicately printed A-line skirts, which exuded the typically Temperley style femininity.
