Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring 2014 Runway Review

Mark Kenly Domino Tan

Mark Kenly Domino Tan is a new designer on the Danish fashion scene and really proved his worth with this solo debut show. His use of new and exciting materials and classic tailoring bodes well for the future. His collection consisted of cocoon shapes, foam-like fabrics, kaftans and dresses worn over wide pants, midi length pencil skirts, organic shapes and garments with sheer details in new more controversial areas such as the crotch. Mark Tan also showed off architectural lines, slits, tailored leather and patent accents in primary colors with an emphasis on blues and reds, and this first collection truly put Mark Tan on the map.

Henrik Vibskov

Henrik Vibskov closed the first day of Copenhagen Fashion Week with his “The Bathtub Observer” at industrial location Papirøen, which is also the brands new headquarters. As always, Vibskov went all in and had the old paper storage decorated with something that resembled the hairs found in a bathtub drain (also a recurring reference in the hats worn by the models), giant magnifying glasses supplemented by music that resembled sounds created inside an empty bathtub. If anything, Vibskov decided to question gender roles and put his male models in high heels which had them walking down the catwalk with just a little less confidence and with a little less force. Vibskov again showed that there is no such thing as predictable in the world of Danish fashion and showed new 3D styles, brand new prints and shapes that were at both oversized and tailored at the same time.
