Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring 2014 Runway Review

Freja Dalsjø

Freja Dalsjø went in a whole new direction and there was a clear presence of the past few decades in the form of spaghetti straps and shiny silks seen in the 90s deep necklines, power suits, contrasting block colors often seen in the 80s, and a beautiful combination of blues and greens with bronze. The collection included a lot of loose shapes that had been laced around the waist, wrap-around garments and even a few fur details.

Moonspoon Saloon

The design collective Moonspoon Saloon, known for being extravagant and outrageous with a circus influenced DNA, had suddenly grown up and gone were the most awkward shapes and the craziest color combinations. Instead, the brand introduced leotards in materials that resembled leather, glitters and latex details. There were even a few pieces that instantly seemed wearable and something that could sell easily such as an oversized cardigan with large panels in the front, as well as a beautiful peplum top and a pair of bloomer shorts. The collection received the first standing ovations of the SS14 shows.

Wali Mohammed Barrech

Wali Mohammed Barrech was another newcomer and showed at the abandoned old locales of the Carlsberg breweries. The designer, who’s a graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, showed a collection with almost clinically simple lines, samurai references, kaftans that bordered on being kimonos which gave the collection an interesting touch with Asian as well as Arabic influences and an abundant use of neoprene.
