Krizia Spring 2014: Call of the Wild

Spring brought the usual from long-running Italian fashion house Krizia: animal motifs, slinky sequined gowns and inventive leather pieces—sometimes all at once. This season’s animal inspo of choice was the tiger, and it showed up everywhere from a turquoise sleeveless maxi dress to mesh/sequin pants to a simple tee, where the animal is depicted slinking among tall grass. Cheetah print and cheetah likenesses showed up on dresses and T-shirts too, those these animal-derived looks weren’t Krizia’s most successful.

White leather was used to great effect in this collection, with geometric cut-outs and used to make a deep-V neckline jumpsuit and jackets relaxed and fitted. Four looks utilized a neat 90s-esque ice blue metallic fabric (a full skater skirt, a robe seemingly inspired by those worn by boxers) and were a nice jolt. Other looks that alternated sheer and opaque fabrics of the same color were also quite nice—think a nipped-waist dress with solid body, sheer sleeves and neckline. The last two metallic looks—scalloped and collaged vest with matching pants, a revealing pleated-skirt dress—were just plain pretty and kind of have us hankering for an upscale Italian event to which to wear them.
