Dries Van Noten Spring 2014: Easy Elegance

You should know that yes, Dries Van Noten did florals for spring, but no they are not your typical every-season florals. The centerpiece was a nosegay of red-orange flowers—maybe parrot tulips?—intricately embroidered on a black dress, a sheer tank and a silky structured jacket. This teeny bouquet has an easy elegance to it, much like Van Noten’s clothes themselves.

The muted Oriental-style florals (sometimes solo, sometimes patchworked) were also a highlight in an overall great collection. The simple four-petal flowers that decorated chiffon dresses were less exciting, though no less fetching. The barbed wire print—a ragged set of black stripes on a mustard-yellow dress—was another highlight and quietly subversive look. It was clearly visible on a beautiful dress, less so on pleated skirts. Of course, ruched fabric played a big part in this collection, from gold-fabric touches here and there to the finale dress, a cut-and-paste amalgam of white, champagne and gold pleated fabrics.

Spring was another beautiful, thoughtful collection from Van Noten.
