The Inspiration: “European work wear […] cool kid’s interpretation of ergonomic uniforms,” Giambattista Valli told The New York Times.
The Look: Urban and sporty, this season had plenty of functional, but very sophisticated sportswear looks. Many models walked the runway with tops and jackets layered on top of leggings and paired with slip-on sneakers, making for looks that one could easily imagine women wearing after hitting the gym in active cities like New York (a set that already favors Moncler). The outerwear-focused collection included jackets and anoraks paneled with contrasting blocks of collar, animal skin monochrome coats, loose jackets with contrasting collars, spiked gray hoodies and coats and printed parkas. The only missteps were a series of brown outerwear pieces that mimicked UPS uniforms a bit too closely.
The Accessories: Slip-on sneakers and various hats including ones that looked as though they were beanies and baseball caps morphed together.
The Beauty: Faces were washed out and totally matte, while hair was covered by hats.
The Takeaway: Moncler may be the oldest sporting jackets manufacturer in the world, but Valli has successfully been able to update the brand to suit modern, fashion-conscious times.
